U.S. News and World Report has recognized the online learning excellence of several Ferris State University Master of Science degree programs in its latest college rankings.

The highest categorical score went to the master’s degree in Nursing Education, which tied for ninth place. Professor Sharon Colley oversees that program and the Master of Science in Nursing, which tied for 96th.

“I believe students are drawn to our program because we have strong faculty with vast experience in each of the Master of Science degree tracks,” Colley said. “They are supportive of students and well aware of the external demands on their time. Our faculty also understand the importance and expectations of the nurse educator role these students will take on once they earn their degree. Students who pursue the MSN in Education recognize that by educating the next generation of nurses, they indirectly contribute to better healthcare outcomes.”

Colley added that many of their MSN Nursing students earned their Bachelor of Science from Ferris or learned of the online program through word of mouth from their Ferris-educated peers or employers.

“They often note that hearing about the strength of our program and the support provided were determinants in their decision to apply,” Colley said.

Ferris’ Master of Science in Information Security and Intelligence stands tied for 19th nationally, categorized in the rankings among the “best online Master’s in Information Technology programs.” Professor Greg Gogolin said that the program’s National Security Agency designation, as a Center of Excellence in Cyber Defense Education, is only one point of pride for this program.

“U.S. News and World Report recognized that our program presents a high level of student excellence,” Gogolin said. “Additionally, the credentials of our faculty are ranked in the top 10 in the country in this report. These elements are part of the criteria that find Ferris’ Master of Science in Information Security and Intelligence perennially positioned among the top 25 programs nationally.”

The Master of Science in Business Administration is also an online offering at Ferris and earned a tie for 86th in the U.S. News and World Report findings. Program Director Alex Manga noted he communicated with the publication’s researchers and agreed with their conclusions.

“We offer an excellent education to our students, with the program being a good value,” Manga said. “The program was re-accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, where our numbers stand up with comparable higher education providers. To maintain our prowess in light of complications from the COVID-19 pandemic is a testament to our faculty and support staff. We are also excited about re-formatting the program, which will allow students to complete their 30-credit requirement by taking just 10 classes. This is the first of several developments that we believe will help our program resonate with students in their quest to succeed and thrive in the marketplace.”

U.S. News and World Report assessed over 1,200 college programs that use only online delivery or present their learning in hybrid fashion at regionally accredited institutions across the United States.
