Ferris State University’s Homecoming Committee has announced that comedian Whitney Cummings has added a stop on the Big Rapids campus as part of her “Touch Me” Tour. Cummings will perform in Ferris’ Williams Auditorium on Wednesday, Sept. 22, beginning at 7 p.m.

Ferris student tickets for Cummings’ show are $10 and limited to one ticket purchase per Ferris student. The Ferris student tickets go on sale beginning Tuesday, Sept. 7. The $25 adult tickets, available to the public, go on sale beginning Monday, Sept. 20. All show tickets can be purchased at the University Center Information Desk during regular operating hours for the UC when the tickets go on sale.

The excitement is already building for Cummings’ performance, according to one of the organizers.

“We felt like Whitney has the sense of humor that would fit well on a college campus. We think the students will really enjoy her show,” said Madison MacDowell, a Music and Entertainment Business major and president of the Ferris Homecoming Committee. “In the past few years, Ferris has brought mainly male comedians, and as great as those men were, I’m excited to showcase an amazing female comedian.”

Cummings’ stand-up specials have been featured on Netflix, Comedy Central and HBO. Her 2019 “Can I Touch It?” stand-up special is running on Netflix. Also, Cummings created and starred in the NBC sitcom “Whitney” and was co-creator of the CBS show “2 Broke Girls.”

“I think her comedy really appeals to young adults and is super relatable,” MacDowell said of the Cummings show, which is intended for mature audiences. “Plus, it’ll be great to actually start seeing different types of entertainment in person again.”

Ferris’ 2021 Homecoming celebration theme is “Bulldogs Back on Campus.” The university kicked off its 2021-22 academic year with Bulldog Beginnings, a series of events to help welcome the return of students who started classes on Monday, Aug. 30.

Anyone intending to attend the event with a disability and needing accommodations should contact Ferris’ Center for Student Involvement at (231) 591-2606 or email at least 72 hours in advance.
