Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.
Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Nick Karlik
He is: a Television Digital Media Production student from Chesaning, heading into his fourth year at Ferris. Karlik will also graduate with a Creative Writing certificate.
His Internship: Nick is completing a six-month internship at WKTV Community Television, serving Wyoming and Kentwood. “I am learning so much here in my time at WKTV. I have advanced my skills in lighting and camera work, I have also become a better director for studio interviews. My assignments have helped me learn much more about shooting in the field and at a location. I believe I am making a difference by helping a new community, as I feel strongly acquainted with Wyoming and Kentwood.”
How Ferris Helped Nick Secure his Opportunity: “Ferris has enjoyed an extended relationship with WKTV, and when COVID hit, they made it easy for me to connect and find this internship.”
Future Plans: “I hope to go on and work at a news station or media production business and be an editor. I hope the connections I have made in my time here help me to find a decent job in the field so that I can start my career.”
Ferris Core Value(s) Nick Relates to: Diversity and Learning. “I love meeting people of all different backgrounds and hearing
their story and where they came from. I have met a variety of people from different
backgrounds here at WKTV, and it is so awesome to see people come together and create
compelling stories. Learning is also important to me. I think in life it is important
to keep learning and gaining knowledge that will help you grow as a person and in
your area of study.”
