A 1996 Ferris State University PGA Golf Management alumnus is settling in during the off-season as the new head golf professional and Katke Golf Course manager.

Brian Corwin, a Lakeview native, acknowledged his diverse professional background since he earned his Bachelor of Science in Marketing through the PGA Golf Management program.

“I still cannot believe I am here, after all the experiences I have had at Katke in my youth, during my time on campus and since then,” Corwin said of his return to Ferris. “It is like a dream, and I am hoping to do great things here.”

Corwin was working at St. Ives Golf Club, in Canadian Lakes, before his graduation. He continued on that staff until February 1998 before beginning various duties with the Coca-Cola company, in the local and regional marketing programs, until November 2020.

“That gave me a great deal of experience and insight into operations management, customer service, sales and business management,” Corwin said. “It proved a great professional destination which allowed me to support my wife and family. All the while, I was active in golf, with maintenance positions and other duties. I was, up until recently, the golf instructor for Brookside Golf and Grill, in Gowen, between Big Rapids and Greenville, in Montcalm County. I am also proud to be approaching 10 years as coach of Lakeview High School’s boys’ and girls’ golf teams, having also played for the Wildcats some time ago.”

Corwin noted that Katke has significantly changed since his days as a Ferris student. The changes he acknowledged include the modern clubhouse and Founders’ Grille, and the Ken Janke Sr. Golf Learning Center.

“The hope is to make more people aware of the excellent features that Katke provides, which make us a destination for golfers, not just throughout west-central Michigan,” Corwin said. “I have great hopes to provide indoor golf league opportunities this February and March in the Ken Janke Sr. Golf Learning Center while working to promote student and faculty league play, beginning in March and continuing throughout the 2021 season.”

Corwin can provide more information on Katke Golf Course and the Ken Janke Sr. Golf Learning Center offerings by email reply or by calling the course at (231) 591-3765.
