Summer Internships: Fawn Filley

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Ferris State UniversityFawn Filley

She is: entering her senior year in Manufacturing Engineering Technology. A Grayling native who resides in Fennville, Fawn will also earn a certificate in Quality Technology from Ferris, is an intern at Bodycote in Holland.

About the Internship/MET Program Cohort: “I have been employed at Bodycote over the last five years, and they have been assisting me with tuition. I am currently a quality manager, and I have been able to apply the concepts I have learned at Ferris to my position and amplify my abilities as a quality manager. Our program at Ferris-Grand Rapids is set up for individuals who can only take night classes due to careers and full-time jobs. My cohort of classmates are all in the engineering industry. Throughout the program, we all have the same schedule and are able to create long-lasting relationships that will be beneficial to life after Ferris as well.”

Advice For Students Seeking Internships: “If you are already working for a company, get creative and use your internship time to get projects done that you’ve wanted to start. Take time to truly commit yourself to improving your company by using tools you have been given throughout your education.

Activities: “I am a member of the Society of Women Engineers.”

Ferris Core Value Fawn Relates to: Opportunity. “I am the only female in my cohort. I have always felt that my opportunity was the same as everyone else in the group, regardless of gender or circumstance. This program has allowed all of us to succeed and work towards our professional goals by being flexible and understanding each individual’s situation.”
