Ferris State University again ranks among the nation ’s best universities in multiple categories in the newly-released U.S. News and World Report 2020 Best Colleges Rankings.

Among Engineering Programs, at institutions that do not offer a doctorate, Ferris tied for 110TH. The top engineering programs rankings are solely based on peer assessment surveys.

Among “Top Performers on Social Mobility,” Ferris tied for 285TH. In defining “social mobility,” U.S. News and World Report wrote, “Economically disadvantaged students are less likely than others to finish college, even when controlling for other characteristics. But some colleges are more successful than others at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants.” Most of those federal grants are awarded to students who come from families with an adjusted gross family income of under $50,000.

Among “National Universities,” Ferris ranked in the 293-381 range. Schools in the “National Universities” category offer a range of undergraduate degrees, master’s and doctoral programs.

The annual U.S. News and World Report rankings are based on numerous factors, including campus life, financial aid, the first-year retention rate of students, quality of the faculty, range of academic programs and graduation rate.
