Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.
Many students are participating in internships this summer. Meet:
Caleb Visser
He is: a College of Engineering Technology senior. Caleb is from Grand Rapids and is pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Heavy Equipment Service Engineering Technology.
His Internship: is with Kent Equipment, in Sparta. “I am learning basic electrical systems and basic hydraulics. I am also learning how to set up products, such as mowers and tractor implements for delivery or pickup.”
Was Ferris Involved in Helping Secure your Internship? “I got this internship through a search of local companies, which was also the case when I interned at Herc Rentals in Grand Rapids.”
Advice for Students Seeking Internships: “Get all the work experience you can, because I believe the more jobs you can put on
a resume, the better. Though you may be moving on in your career by experiencing multiple
internships, don’t burn bridges.”
