Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.
Many students are participating in internships this summer. Meet:
David Ragatz III
He is: a senior from Grand Blanc studying Television and Digital Media Production in the College of Education and Human Services.
His Internship: Is with a media services provider in Grand Rapids, Cynthia Kay and Company. “I am learning how to produce content and work with clients. I am learning about different software and how each is used in this industry. I am also learning a lot about Avid, which is the editing software they use here.”
Future Plans: “I hope to become a successful producer for advertisements, in either television or film. I came into this internship not knowing what I wanted to do. Now, I feel that producing is the right path for my career.”
Previous Internship Experience: “I had an internship last summer in Los Angeles for an editing company, JumP. While I was there, I worked on a YouTube Music commercial, Lexis commercial and a Mazda commercial. This was an outstanding experience, and I would love to go back out there, when I have more production under my belt, later in life.”
Other Activities On Campus: “I am part of the Ferris State Football team and a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.”
Ferris Core Values David Relates to: Opportunity and Learning. “I never want to stop learning, and if I’m always learning,
I believe that will open up more opportunities.”
