The Ferris Foundation for Excellence Benefit Celebrates Year 20 Nov. 2 in Grand Rapids

Ferris State UniversityExciting presentations and an emphasis on Ferris State University’s academic colleges will be displayed for the corporate supporters, university friends, students, faculty and staff who attend The Ferris Foundation for Excellence Benefit Friday, Nov. 2, at DeVos Place Convention Center in Grand Rapids.

Though The Ferris Foundation was established in 1991, Executive Director Carla Miller noted that this Benefit will be the 20th consecutive celebration of the Foundation’s mission as a valued and trusted intermediary between the university and its donors.

“We are gratified that university colleges and programs have collaborated with The Foundation to make available, and highlight some of the technology that is unique and central to our students’ learning at Ferris,” Miller said. “Whether a guest tries on a body cam and sees the images, learns a little about their golf swing through use of a TracMan simulator or hears the actual murmur of a heart over a SimScope, those experiences will provide special insight on many vivid experiences found each day in the classroom.”

Miller said there is also great anticipation regarding The Benefit’s keynote address from Tim Murphy, a member of The Ferris Foundation’s Board of Directors and a former FBI deputy director.

“We are glad to have Tim share his thoughts as a global leader in law enforcement and intelligence,” Miller said. “His dedication and service to The Foundation Board, like so many other of our directors, make this 20th-anniversary celebration so very special.”

Kim Erickson, the administrative assistant for The Ferris Foundation, said ticket sales continue for The Benefit.

“We are pleased that alumni from our 2018 national championship basketball team, Peter Firlik and Noah King, will be joining us,” Erickson said. “They will help kick off the evening’s program as the success of our athletic teams will be highlighted along with Ferris’ academic excellence.”

A special rate remains available for Ferris faculty, staff and emeriti, along with an online individual ticket purchase opportunity. The cocktail reception begins at 5:30 p.m. in Exhibit Hall C, with dinner served at 7 p.m. The evening program starts at 8 p.m. with Murphy’s keynote address set for 8:30 p.m. followed by a meet-and-greet at 9:15 p.m.
