An education and career resource website recently named Ferris State University’s Digital Animation and Game Design program one of the top choices in Michigan for game design, with Animation Career
Review ranking the DAGD curriculum among the best in the Midwest. ACR placed it among
the top 25 percent of schools in the United States.
More than 150 schools were reviewed. Based on information from survey responses or available program information, ACR published its 2018 roster of the Top 50 Game Design Schools and Colleges in the United States. Ferris was 38th overall, second in Michigan, sixth in the Midwest and 17th among all publicly-funded schools and colleges in the U.S. that offer a game design curriculum.
The ACR game design ranking made a note of the variety of associate of applied science and bachelor’s degrees available through Ferris and the Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University. Beyond a Bachelor of Science in DAGD, Ferris also has a BS in Digital Media Software Engineering, through the School of Digital Media, or students can pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Media and Design from KCAD.
Animation Career Review established its Top Colleges reports in 2012. The most recent ranking represents the fourth-year schools were surveyed for the most accurate program portrayals.
Criteria incorporated into their rankings include:
- Academic reputation
- Admission selectivity
- Depth and breadth of the program
- Value as it relates to tuition and indebtedness
- Geographic location
DAGD students may serve as active participants in some growing industries beyond game
design. The industries include medical visualization, product design and creation
of educational software.
