Sports Careers RSO and Sports Communication students are teaming up with Ferris State University’s Athletics Department to promote heart health. Through this collaborative effort, fans are encouraged to wear red apparel to “Red Out” the Ewigleben Sports Complex on Saturday Feb. 24 as a tripleheader of games will be hosted throughout the facility.
“Students would benefit from the event in multiple ways,” said Terrell Wright, a senior in the Sports Communication program and Red Out coordinator. “They would be supporting women’s heart health, their peers of Ferris State’s men’s and women’s basketball and men’s hockey, as well as learning some tips for maintaining a healthy heart.”
Red Out begins with the men’s basketball team hosting Grand Valley State University, at 1 p.m., before the women’s basketball team faces GVSU, at 3 p.m., in Wink Arena. The Red Out continues into the evening as Bulldog Hockey hosts Lake Superior State University, at 7:07 p.m., across the concourse in the Ewigleben Ice Arena.
“Come wearing red and help us help someone in our community with their rehabilitation by donating,” Wright said.
Red Out collaborators include the Sports Careers RSO, students from the Sports Communication 389 and 489 classes, and the Ferris Athletic Department. The event is in support of Healthy Heart Month and the Cardiac Pulmonary Unit of Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital.
