The fifth annual Ferris Pride Spring Break Photo Contest kicks off Monday, March 5 and runs through Sunday, March 11. The 2018 contest is open to all current Ferris State University students eager to showcase their Bulldog pride while on spring break. Students may submit their photos, with captions, to qualify in the following categories: staycation (for those who remain close to home), most unique location, most Ferris pride, most liked and editor’s choice. Submissions will be judged for a chance to win a Ferris-branded pullover or other apparel. Winners will be notified by email. Click rules for additional details.
Many Ferris students plan their spring-break adventures months in advance. Others elect to take it easy and remain close to home. Students often choose warm-weather locations in states like Arizona, California, Florida and Texas, some travel abroad to experience different countries and others may engage in service projects to lend a helping hand to people in need.
“I plan on driving home to Chicago and taking this time to work and visit with my family. I don’t get to go home as often as I want to,” said Rilie Bury, a senior majoring in Integrative Studies. “It will be nice to catch up with friends, family and catch up on some much-needed sleep. I prefer it this way. I’m not bummed I’m not going on a traditional spring break.”
While Bury plans on traveling home to Chicago, for spring break, some students have plans to visit warmer southern locations, instead.
“I’ve been to Florida many times, but I have never been to Fort Lauderdale, and I can’t wait to share this experience with not only my best friends but with my sorority sisters,” said Amanda Roehl, a junior majoring in Public Relations in the College of Business. “I used to take the long Florida drive, as a kid, but never as the actual driver.”

PHOTO CAPTION: Chris Poiner, a senior in Health Care Systems Administration from Wixom, Mich., is shown here in this spring break contest entry from 2017. Writes Chris: “This photo was taken along one of the main roads in front of the Capitol Building in Old Havana, Cuba. Thephoto was taken on Friday, March 10, during our week-long trip learning about Cuba’s history and culture, while meeting many Cubans, and enjoying all the amazing things Cuba has to offer. Most of the week was spent in Santa Clara, Cuba; however, we did spend a few days exploring in Havana.”
