Summer Internships: Chris Malkiewicz

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Ferris State UniversityChris Malkiewicz

He is: completing his Bachelor of Science in Television and Digital Media Production with his internship. Chris graduated from Oxford High School and came to Ferris as a transfer student from the Illinois Institute of Art, in Chicago.

His Internship: Chris began duties in video and web page production with the West Michigan Whitecaps on March 1. “We have produced in-game video segments with players, and taken up other projects with the promotions team, like developing a skit for the Whitecaps’ ‘Pokemon Night.’ I have produced and edited web pages, all of which has helped me learn more about media production, and the level of demand for media in baseball games, and sporting events.”

How Ferris Helped Chris With his Internship: “I am the third Ferris student to take this internship, in a continuing relationship with Whitecaps, and the TDMP program. I am looking forward to continuing my duties through the Midwest League playoffs.”

Future Plans: “I think this internship has helped me determine that I want to pursue video production in professional sports, most likely, in baseball. I have enjoyed all aspects of what this season has presented to me.”

Advice for Other Ferris Students Regarding Internships: “Have your portfolio, or examples of your work and ability ready, and turn out a good resume. Don’t be afraid to talk with the staff during your internship, so you can make connections, and be sure to work hard for them.”
