UPDATE: Ferris announces dates and locations for events to help with the admissions process for former ITT students.
More than 30,000 students have been left frustrated and wondering what the future holds after ITT Technical Educational Services Inc. abruptly announced the closure of its 130 campuses, nationwide. As an institution founded on the idea of making education as accessible as possible, Ferris State University has taken immediate action to make opportunities available to some of the affected students.
Ferris has taken steps to make a transfer to Ferris easy for the former ITT students. A list of ITT course equivalencies has been developed, at Ferris, meaning for those courses, students will not lose credit for work that they have already completed. In an effort to ease student fears about their next steps, Ferris will work with students to assist them with a seamless transfer or starting a new degree program. Students may transfer with as few as 12 credit hours. Ferris faculty and staff are prepared to help each ITT student develop an individualized career and education plan to meet their goals.
“We want students to know that a college education is still within reach at our university,” said Deedee Stakley, director of the Office of Transfer and Secondary School Partnerships. Stakley is leading a team tasked with helping ITT students transition to Ferris. She will announce dates for transfer and admissions fairs for ITT students the week of Sept. 12.
With its main campus in Big Rapids, 21 locations across the state and one of the best online programs in the Midwest, Ferris is uniquely prepared to help ITT students reach their goals. Ferris sites in Auburn Hills, Flint, Garden City, Grand Rapids and Warren offer nearby ITT students the ability to earn their degree without leaving their own community. ITT students will also benefit from the experts in Ferris’ Admissions and Financial Aid offices, who will help them sort through any complications.
