Summer Internships: Tyler Diaz

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Tyler DiazTyler Diaz

She is: a junior from Fennville, Mich., studying marketing.

Her Internship: Tyler is working with a Bridgestone Tires dealership, which sees her offering customer service and sales presentations, along with aspects of store management, such as bill paying and analyzing corporate reports.

Future Plans: “I would like to work for Bridgestone’s corporate offices. The hands-on experience I gained this summer has broadened the experience I received in the classroom.”

Previous Internship: At Uniform Color Company, in Holland, Mich., Tyler was able to add some marketing duties to her primary role of serving as a receptionist.

Other involvement at Ferris: “I am a member of the American Marketing Association, a Ferris registered student organization, and I have played intramural soccer.”

Making a Difference in Her Internship: “My final project was a grassroots sales event, where I was responsible for a weekend store promotion. I was charged with promoting customer response and involvement. Beyond marketing that event, I participated in outreach like distributing promotional materials and making customer calls.”
