A 2014 graduate of Ferris State University’s Criminal Justice program is the newest
officer for the university’s Department of Public Safety.
Dejujuan Nelson had also been a student officer for the department, according to Director of Public Safety Bruce Borkovich. The Grand Blanc native began a six-month training schedule on Monday, May 9.
Borkovich said that Nelson went to Mott Community College in Flint, Mich. for its
Law Enforcement Regional Training Academy, and graduated on Thursday, April 28 from
that 16-week instructional program.
“We were so pleased with his student employee experience, we made Dejujuan one of
our cadets,” Borkovich said. “He’s a delightful young man.”
Nelson is filling a vacancy in Ferris’ DPS Police Operations, as Joy Paquette had
recently joined the Mecosta-Osceola Career Center as a public safety instructor. Borkovich
said that Nelson has begun the department’s full-time officer training program.
“Dejujuan will go through a variety of intensive sessions with our officers,” Borkovich
said. “When those are completed, satisfactorily, he will be patrolling the campus
on his own.”
