Kristi L. Haik Named Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education

Kristi L. HaikFerris State University has named Kristi Haik its new dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education. The announcement was made by Paul Blake, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. Haik’s appointment is effective on Friday, July 1.

“Dr. Haik’s energy, skills, leadership background and student-centered focus will serve the College of Arts, Sciences and Education well,” Blake said. “Ferris is fortunate to be able to welcome her to the university team.”

Haik was most recently chair for the Department of Biological Sciences and professor at Northern Kentucky University, in Highland Heights, Ky. At NKU, Haik served as interim director of the Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics, interim associate dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education, director and principal investigator of Project SOAR, co-director and co-principal investigator of Project SOAR, and director of grant development in the Office of Research, Grants and Contracts. Her other positions have included research manager of basic and clinical neurosciences at the Field Neurosciences Institute, in Saginaw, Mich.

Haik was awarded the National Mentoring Award from the Council on Undergraduate Research, Biology Division, in 2010, and the SPARK Award - Commitment to Diversity from NKU’s College of Arts, Sciences and Education, in 2012-13. Her university service has included working on Faculty Senate, a Student Retention and Success Strategic Implementation Team and the Athletic Council. Her research has helped to obtain several grants that total more than $4 million, during her career.

Haik earned a doctoral degree, in applied experimental psychology, with a neuroscience focus, from Central Michigan University, in 2000. She also holds a master’s degree in general experimental psychology, neuroscience focus and a bachelor’s degree in biology from CMU.

The search committee was chaired by Jennifer Johnson, a Geography professor in the Social Sciences department, and David Frank, department head for Physical Sciences.
