The gala begins at 5:30 p.m. with appetizers, a refreshment station and a silent auction with items that include artwork, travel packages and more. Ferris State UniversityBeginning at 7 p.m., the gala continues with entertainment from emcee Dominic Fortuna, a five-course gourmet meal prepared under the leadership of a team of executive guest chefs and an opportunity to enjoy the music of the Original Rockin’ Fenderskirts.

The 1950s sock hop-themed event is the main fundraising effort for the Hospitality Management program through a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle that evening. In total, the event raises approximately $15,000 to assist with student academic scholarships and student academic travel expenses for professional conferences. A cash bar and live entertainment will be available for attendees to enjoy.

“We look forward to celebrating 25 years and recognizing all that these future leaders have to look forward to as they become professionals in the hospitality industry,” said Amy Dorey, an assistant professor in the College of Business and its Hospitality Management program. “The Hospitality Gala has provided the students of our program with amazing educational experiences. I have watched as these student teams have forged crucial skills in leadership and communication during the planning and execution of the event.”

Attendees include Hospitality alumni, families of the program’s students, industry professional and community members. Seats can be purchased and reserved for $75 online through the Hospitality Management website. The website also includes other sponsorship opportunities.

“This is going to be a very exciting event, for our guests, and with this being the final Gala we are going out with a bang,” said Claire Wolfe, student general manager for the 2016 Hospitality Gala.

In the future, due to curriculum changes, the Hospitality Management program will host several events throughout the year to create more leadership opportunities while in the program.

“Through this event we have developed strong partnerships across our industry, our campus and community,” Dorey said. “As the Hospitality Management program continues to grow, we will use the model for experiential learning developed, through Gala, to launch a comprehensive learning in action program. It will provide our students with the increasing diversity of skills and industry knowledge necessary to ensure their success in a highly-competitive global market.”
