Summer Internships: Brianna Feldpausch

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Ferris State UniversityBrianna Feldpausch

She is: A junior in Risk Management and Insurance from Fowler, Mich.

Her Internship: Brianna is assisting the staff at Auto-Owners Insurance, Inc., in Lansing, with an emphasis on review of policies submitted by agents. She is working on confirmation of the company’s risks, renewal information and details regarding endorsements.

What advice can you offer to other students considering or pursuing internships? “Research your internship both before you commit to it and then before you arrive. I am in a great situation, here, having avoided the ‘busy work’ that I’m hearing about from some friends interning elsewhere.”

Are you involved in any groups at Ferris? Brianna has focused on her studies to this point, but plans to pledge the Gamma Iota Sigma professional insurance fraternity when she returns to campus for fall semester classes.

How she’s making a difference in her internship: “I have learned an appreciation for Auto-Owners’ core values, and promote them when I interact with the company’s agents. This internship has helped define my career direction, and I would enjoy coming back to Auto-Owners, perhaps in their Marketing department.”
