Summer Internships: Leesa Deadwyler

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet:

Ferris State UniversityLeesa Deadwyler

She is: a Senior in operations and supply management from Trufant, Mich., with a dual minor in Spanish and Resource Management.

Her Internship: Was with Gentex, a manufacturer of rearview mirrors and camera-based driver assistance systems. “I learned about the processing of orders, adjusting a supply chain to order demands and operating system use, to assist in order management.”

How Leesa got her Internship: “One of my professors was passionate about the company, and promoted the opportunity. He got me in touch with a contact at Gentex, and I had an interview within a few days.”

Other groups she is Involved with at Ferris: Leesa is in the Honors Program, and is vice president of Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society. She is also vice president of the Operations and Supply Chain Management Association. She is also in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Making a Difference at Gentex: “I was able to help the Order Management team save time and effort, with an update of formatting on certain documents. This was part of an effort to improve efficiency of daily processes. I also played a key role in transferring customers to a new distribution center, one of the corporation’s larger efforts this summer.”
