The Ferris Community Summer Band is entering its 50th concert season with a performance on Wednesday, June 10 at The Old Jail in Big Rapids.
The Old Jail is located at 220 South Stewart Street. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the Big Rapids First United Methodist Church located at 304 Elm Street.
Area adults, college students, high school students and advanced middle school students
will perform light and enjoyable selections for the audience.
To commemorate this 50th concert season, the band has commissioned a new work from composer Michael Boo. His
“Ferris Fanfare” incorporates elements of Ferris State University’s fight song and
alma mater anthem in new and exciting ways. This will be presented throughout this
year’s summer concert series.
Other selections include Broadway/Hollywood music from Fiddler on the Roof, Latin
music, two ballads, Ragtime and two American marches with audience participation.
Featured musical artists on this concert are T. Patrick Billig, euphonium; Bonnie Jean, vocal soloist; Louis Vajda, trumpet; and Ed Mallett, euphonium.
Sponsored by Ferris as part of its “Music for Life!” initiative, the Ferris Community Summer Band is celebrating its 50th year of bringing the campus and the community together through music. Band participation is free and open to all area adults, college students, high school students and advanced middle school students with band experience. In order to perform in a concert, musicians should attend the rehearsal beforehand. Musicians are invited to perform in as many concerts as they can that fit into their schedules. Musical friends and relatives visiting in town this summer are also welcome.
To participate, either contact director Scott Cohen in advance at (231)-591-2484 or[email protected], or visit during the next rehearsal.
