Bradstreet Goes from Soccer Field to Colorado to Make the Most of Summer Internship

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet: Ashley BradstreetAshley Bradstreet

She is: A senior from Grandville, Mich. In the Public Relations program.

Internship: Bradstreet is completing an internship with Bravo! Vail Music Festival, located in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. She is working on nearly 10 events per week while updating webpages, press clipping and researching the impact of the festivals, as well as managing the company blog.

“If I had to choose my favorite part, I’d say it’s the overall culture of the organization. The people are inspiring and extremely helpful—oh and getting to see concerts at the beautiful Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail, Colo., whenever I want, is pretty great, too,” Bradstreet said.

What she is learning: Bradstreet is learning the importance of results and making sure Bravo! Vail Music Festival tactics are aligned with their strategies, then making the changes to ensure that they do.

What she is involved in: At Ferris, Bradstreet is a student-athlete with the women’s soccer program and member of the Ferris chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America.

Her future plans: “Upon graduation in December, I hope to work for a non-profit organization or get another internship,” Bradstreet said. “I really like doing the marketing/PR for events so hopefully something with that.”
