Crouch Thrives with Double the Experience During Two Internships

Ferris State University students gain valuable work experience through internships. Internships also can confirm or redirect career decision-making, provide marketability, develop people skills and enhance classroom learning. Many academic programs require one, but the experience is encouraged regardless to provide students with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in the workplace.

Many students are participating in myriad internships this summer. Meet: Hannah Crouch

Hannah Crouch

She is: A senior from LeRoy, Mich., majoring in Television and Digital Media Production

Internship: Hannah is working two places for her internship: MI News 26, a Cadillac-based local news TV station, and News Services in Ferris’ University Advancement and Marketing office.

Both internships are paid and run from July to December.

What she’s learning: Hannah is a photojournalist and video editor for MI News 26. She works with a reporter and shoots video for a variety of stories, and writes, produces commercials and does studio work.

As a video intern in the UA&M department at Ferris, Hannah shoots video for projects that promote the university.

“I am currently working on promotions for SocialFest 2013 and some other fun projects for Ferris,” Hannah said. “I am able to be creative while also helping out the university that helped me so much.”

Favorite experience: “I am able to meet lots of interesting people and get to go places and see things the average person doesn’t see,” Hannah said of her work for MI News 26. “I love that I get to learn so much about my community while also helping others get their story out there.”

Her favorite part about working for UA&M at Ferris is the people she gets to work with.

“They are all friendly and inviting and definitely supportive,” Hannah said. “I am always happy to come into work where I know my co-workers are always there to help.”

She also said she enjoys promoting Ferris: “the place that has given me so much hope and potential.”

Core value: Her internship emulates many of Ferris’s core values, from collaboration to opportunity, she said.

“My internships both definitely emulate Ferris’ core values,” Hannah said. “We all work together to make a better university or a better news cast for the community. There’s a lot of positivity in both places, and I’m constantly learning new things that I am able to go out and teach others. Both places offer great opportunities to grow and expand my career and be a better person in general.”
