The Ferris State University Alumni Association is set to offer the first exclusive tour event for alumni to explore Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium during Father’s Day weekend on Saturday, June 16.
Registration is open until June 1 and the cost is $50 for adults and $25 for children. The event will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Attendees will explore the aquarium, dine at a buffet dinner in the Caribbean Reef and watch a Caribbean Reef Dive.
“We want to keep the Chicago alumni population active with the university and establish a lasting relationship,” said Jeremy Mishler, director of Alumni Relations and Advancement Operations and executive director of the FSU Alumni Association. “Future alumni will continue to explore this area. It is very important to the university to support alumni interests. I think what we look forward to is really meeting and engaging with alumni we don’t know as well.”
Mishler said that the association wanted to host a family activity for alumni to enjoy and offer an event that will work into family schedules during Father’s Day weekend.
“What we do in the summer is rotate around the state and nation to where big pockets of alumni reside,” he said. “We picked a Chicago outing where the whole family is welcome.”
More than 1,500 Ferris alumni live in the Chicago area, Mishler noted. Since the entire Shedd Aquarium will be reserved for Ferris alumni and friends of the university, Mishler said that the Alumni Association is going to make the event significant for Ferris supporters and hopes to accommodate as many alumni as possible.
“We are often sharing space with the general public. This event has reserved space for only Ferris alumni to explore the aquarium in an exclusive way. This is going to be a neat exclusive experience,” Mishler said. “The Caribbean reef diver is going to be wearing Ferris gear. We are going to make this event very Ferris.”
A cash bar will be available on site.
