Ferris State University and the Ferris State University Alumni Association wish to
extend their deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues on the tragic
loss of former student and Walker police officer Trevor Slot. As noted in the Grand Rapids Press newspaper, Slot, 41, who graduated from the Ferris Criminal Justice program in 1993,
passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13 as a result of injuries sustained as he was in the
process of placing stop sticks on 1-96 at 8thAvenue when he was struck by the suspects’ car. This is the second tragic death of
one of our proud alumni. In August, the Ferris family lost James Ryan McCandless,
a Ferris Criminal Justice alumnus and Rapid City, S.D. police officer when he was
shot and killed during a traffic stop. “I know that you join me in extending condolences
to the families of Officer Slot, Officer McCandless, and others who deal with the
aftermath of such senseless violence,” said Ferris president David Eisler in a note
to the university community on Monday.
