Ferris Grieves the Loss of Alumnus Trevor Slot

Trevor SlotFerris State University and the Ferris State University Alumni Association wish to extend their deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues on the tragic loss of former student and Walker police officer Trevor Slot. As noted in the Grand Rapids Press newspaper, Slot, 41, who graduated from the Ferris Criminal Justice program in 1993, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13 as a result of injuries sustained as he was in the process of placing stop sticks on 1-96 at 8thAvenue when he was struck by the suspects’ car. This is the second tragic death of one of our proud alumni. In August, the Ferris family lost James Ryan McCandless, a Ferris Criminal Justice alumnus and Rapid City, S.D. police officer when he was shot and killed during a traffic stop. “I know that you join me in extending condolences to the families of Officer Slot, Officer McCandless, and others who deal with the aftermath of such senseless violence,” said Ferris president David Eisler in a note to the university community on Monday.

A full honors public funeral service will be at Resurrection Life Church, 5100 Ivanrest S.W., Grandville, Friday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. The service will be followed by the funeral procession through downtown Walker to the committal service at Rosedale Cemetery, O-50 Lake Michigan Drive NW., Grand Rapids, 49534.
