Toon in to Ferris Homecoming 2011

Toon In To Ferris Homecoming 2011Homecoming 2011 is just around the corner and Ferris State University is set to get into the school spirit by asking everyone to “Toon” in this year.

The cartoon theme for this fall’s homecoming celebration, which begins on Monday, Oct. 10 and runs through Saturday, Oct. 15, is “Toon in to Homecoming 2011.”

“The Homecoming Committee believes that the cartoon theme is fun and appropriate to incorporate because it is something that current students and alumni can relate to and it brings a sense of unity to the campus,” said student Danielle Leisner, king and queen selection chair.

Homecoming ranks as one of the biggest and longest-running traditional celebrations at Ferris, and one students and campus officials are ready to celebrate.

“This year’s homecoming events promise to be fun as we celebrate not only Ferris State University but we do it in a way that represents the character in all of us,” said Director of Alumni Relations and Advancement Operations Jeremy Mishler, who also serves as homecoming committee advisor. “We look forward to bringing back thousands of alumni and their families to participate in homecoming activities.”

One of the traditional highlights of homecoming week is the annual bonfire, which takes place this year on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at approximately 8 p.m. in Lot 61 by Brophy/McNerney halls.

The homecoming parade will be held on Saturday, Oct 15 in downtown Big Rapids, beginning at noon. The parade brings Ferris together with the Big Rapids community and features, among others, homecoming king and queen candidates, student organizations, faculty, staff and others.

Following the parade will be a variety of alumni tailgating events leading up to the homecoming football game as the Bulldogs host Northern Michigan University at 2 p.m. at Top Taggart Field. The homecoming king and queen honorees will be announced at halftime of the game between the Bulldogs and the Wildcats.

There is an alumni welcome tent in Lot 37, just west of Top Taggart Field, open from 10 a.m. until game time. After the football contest, there is an alumni and student homecoming social from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. at The Gate.

Homecoming activities are a collaborative effort sponsored by the student homecoming committee, the Ferris Alumni Association and numerous student organizations and alumni groups.
