Chuck Drake, a Ferris State University professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology,
was named the 2011 Professional Engineer Higher Education Division Engineer of the
Year by the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers at the Michigan Engineering
Conference hosted at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids in June.
Drake was recognized by MSPE primarily for his work with MATHCOUNTS, a middle-school math competition, and for his engineering-related college student activities that include the Ferris Formula SAE student race car project. Drake credited strong volunteer work in Big Rapids and excellent university support for the success of the Woodbridge N. Ferris MATHCOUNTS event, locally.
Drake was nominated by the Western Michigan Section of MSPE.
He and his wife Donna reside in Big Rapids.
