Hogan Named Ferris' Graduate Education Coordinator

Nancy HoganFerris State University has named Nancy Hogan, a professor of Criminal Justice and the C.J. graduate program coordinator at Ferris, as its new graduate education coordinator. She will begin her new duties in January 2012.

“Please join us in congratulating Dr. Hogan on this new responsibility,” said Roberta Teahen, associate provost. “She and the Office of Academic Affairs will welcome ideas about advancing the quality and visibility of graduate education at Ferris.”

Hogan earned a Ph.D. at Arizona State University, in Justice Studies; a master’s degree from Pennsylvania-based Mercyhurst College, in Justice Administration; and a bachelor’s degree from Gannon University, also based in Pennsylvania.

Hogan’s prior criminal justice experience includes working in corrections in roles such as correctional officer, counselor and HIV/AIDS specialist. She served as program supervisor of “Thrive,” which provided services and supervision to drug-exposed newborns and their mothers. As she pursued her Ph.D., Hogan worked part time for the Arizona Supreme Court’s traffic program.

Since her transition to academia, Hogan’s research has focused on cognitive-restructuring programs for inmates, organizational issues, job satisfaction of correctional staff and other key work environment factors. Hogan has actively served on task forces and senate committees related to graduate education since 1997. Currently, she chairs the University Graduate and Professional Council and has been an active member since its establishment in 2002.

Hogan’s early tasks as graduate education coordinator will include the creation of a graduate office presence at Ferris and improving admissions processes to facilitate graduate recruitment and enrollment. She also will be working with representatives of our graduate programs, the University Graduate and Professional Council of the Senate, and Ferris’ Office of Academic Affairs.
