Feutz Named Mechanical Contractors Association Educator of the Year

Mike FeutzMike Feutz, an associate professor in Ferris State University’s College of Engineering Technology, was named the 2010 Mechanical Contractors Association of America, Inc. Educator of the Year.

Feutz was recognized for the achievement during the 2011 Awards of Excellence breakfast on Wednesday, March 9 at the association’s annual convention in Wailea, Maui, Hawaii. He won the same award in 2008.

“The MCAA leadership and staff consistently provide positive affirmation for the work I do and go to great lengths to show their appreciation for me personally, for the faculty advisors in general and for the students who are the future of their industry,” said Feutz, who teaches courses in Ferris’ Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration department. “This award is nice, but it is just frosting on the cake.”

Feutz began teaching in 1989 when he was asked to teach a sheet metal apprenticeship program and continued to hold that position until 1998 when he started work at Ferris.

He loves his role as a teacher.

“Making a connection with the students and watching the light come on when a new concept is understood are the rewards that motivate me to teach,” Feutz said.
