Ferris Board of Trustees Honors Jack Fleming

BpictureIG RAPIDS – The Ferris State University Board of Trustees has bestowed upon John R. (Jack) Fleming a Certificate of Recognition for his many years of service to the University.

For more than 14 years, Fleming provided leadership as a professor and head of the Environmental Health and Quality programs at Ferris. He is one of the founding members of the Ferris Emeriti Association, serving as president, vice president and as the association’s representative on the Ferris Alumni Association Board of Directors.

It was Fleming’s strong advocacy for structuring the Emeriti Association within the Alumni Association that helped solidify the Emeriti Association and provide a more direct means of communication with Ferris’ administration.

Fleming has kept strong ties to his field after retirement by remaining involved with professional organizations such as the Michigan Board of Examiners for Samaritans, National Environmental Health Association and American Academy of Samaritans.

He also has been actively involved in the Big Rapids community. Well-known for his passion for lifelong learning, he has devoted many hours advocating for senior enrichment programs resulting in the launch of senior programming through Ferris’ Extended Learning office. Fleming served as a member of the Big Rapids Township Zoning Board, the Mecosta Chapter of the Michigan Audubon Society and was an active member of the United Church in Big Rapids.

He and his wife, Rita, reside in Big Rapids.
