Kendall College of Art and Design students to exhibit at international trade show

GRAND RAPIDS - Students at Kendall College of Art and Design will have an extraordinary opportunity to exhibit their work at The Office Exhibition in Dubai, an annual international trade show now in its sixth year, at The Dubai International Exhibition Centre June 3 through 5.

Attendance figures for previous shows indicate that more than half of the nearly 12,000 registered trade visitors are from Dubai; more than one-fourth of the visitors are from Abu Dhabi, the other Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the other Arab states; with the balance of the visitors from Europe, India, Pakistan, Iran and North Africa. Exhibitors at the show also include representatives from Italy, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Portugal, Turkey and China. The Office Exhibition is held in conjunction with The Hotel Show and The Retail Show.

Six Kendall students will be accompanied by four faculty members who are chairs of the four programs represented by the students and their products - furniture design, industrial design, metals/jewelry, and furniture as functional art.

Dr. Oliver H. Evans, president of Kendall, will also accompany the students. "The opportunity to provide this sort of quality international business experience to our students is very rare and we are grateful for this prestigious invitation from the Exhibition Director, Paula Al Chami," he said. "It is a privilege to offer these students a global perspective of the business of design in a location that is undergoing the development of a dynamically high-growth economy."

The Kendall students' exhibit will be placed in the same area as some familiar names from the design world such as Haworth, Herman Miller, Allsteel, Teknion and Vitra. As a part of Ferris State University, Kendall College of Art and Design offers programs that prepare the college's graduates for professional lives as artists and designers. Kendall's undergraduate programs include art education, art history, digital media, fine arts, furniture design, graphic design, illustration, industrial design, interior design, metals/jewelry, painting, photography, and sculpture and functional art.
