Security Updates for Apple

Critical security updates for both Android and iOS devices are available to download. You should make sure you have the latest system versions on your devices. You can check by following the directions below. It is also recommended that University issued mobile devices be pin or password protected. To learn how to pin or password protect, see below.

It is highly recommended that your iOS device(s) are running the latest software update provided by Apple.

It is strongly recommended to back-up your device prior to any software update utilizing iTunes instead of iCloud.

To back up your iOS device via iTunes, follow these steps:

  1. Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer
  2. Plug your device in to your computer
  3. Select “File”, then select “Devices”, then select “Back up”

To update your device wirelessly follow these steps:

  1. Plug your device in to a power source
  2. Select “Settings”, then select “General”, then select “Software Update”
  3. Select “Download and Install”
  4. Select “Install” upon the completion of the download

To update your device using iTunes follow these steps:

  1. Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer 
  2. Plug your device in to your computer
  3. Open iTunes and select your device
  4. Select “Check for Update” in the Summary Pane
  5. Select “Download and Update”

To create a passcode for your iOS mobile device, follow these steps:

  1. Select “Settings”
  2. Select “Touch ID & Passcode” or “Passcode”
  3. Select “Turn Passcode On”
  4. Follow the on screen prompts
