Updating Downloaded Android Apps

You can choose to update your Android device's apps individually or allow them to be updated automatically.

    • Open the Google Play Store app .
    • Touch the Menu icon > My Apps.

Apps with available updates are labeled "Update."

    • Select individual apps and touch Update.

Tip: In some cases, you may need to restart your device to update an app.

    • Open the Google Play Store app .
    • Touch the Menu icon > My Apps.

Apps with available updates are labeled "Update."

    • Select the app you want to update.
    • Touch Menu  and check the box next to "Auto-update."

When the Auto-update box is selected, the app will update automatically when updates are available.

To turn off automatic updates and manually approve updates, uncheck the box next to "Auto-update."

  • If you have a mobile data (3G/4G) plan, you can choose to automatically update apps over Wi-Fi only. Updating apps on Wi-Fi can help lower your mobile data usage on your device.

    • Open the Google Play Store app .
    • Touch the Menu icon > Settings.
    • Under "General," select Auto-update apps.
    • Select Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only.

Make sure your device is set up to use a Wi-Fi connection by going to your device's main Settings menu > Wi-Fi.
