IT Mission Statement

Provide value through excellent customer service and integrated technology solutions.

In support of this mission, IT will follow these guiding principles:

  • Information technology will be forward thinking, aligning leading-edge technology with desired outcomes. Collaborative partnerships with stakeholders and vendors will be pursued to provide cost-effective, full functioning solutions which support the University’s mission.

  • Information Technology has become a vital component in every department's service delivery methods. As strategic plans are developed for each facet of University business, Information Technology Services will play a key role in ensuring the advancement of University goals. The adoption of new technology will be driven by University needs and the necessity to provide our diverse student population an education in an environment that is unique and cost-effective.

  • Ferris State University needs to leverage existing and new technologies to improve service without incurring additional costs. Budget limitations demand that the implementation of new technologies be done using best practices methods. Aligning IT with organizational goals will ensure that projects are managed to promote measurable outcomes.

  • IT will use best practice methodology to deploy new solutions. Existing solutions will be thoroughly reviewed to ensure maximum outcomes can be achieved before investing in new solutions. IT will work with our partners to ensure complexity is not built in unless it is required. IT will work with our partners to minimize customizations unless required. Serving a diverse organization with multiple objectives can easily lead to the creation of separate islands of information and technology. Standardization of the technical environment is essential in providing appropriate solutions and support.

  • Constant attention must be given to technology trends and cycles to get the most value for the investment placed in technology. Continual budget planning will guarantee that investments are worthwhile while keeping technology current and effective. All technology used directly by students should reflect current business technology used in that student’s area of study to maximize workforce participation success.

  • Information Technology Services role in Ferris State University is to serve as internal consultants providing high-quality, responsive service. The nature of technology, is a core component of each department's mission, demands superior service, security, and reliability. Attention will be given to the effective use of customer service methodologies to promote the effective use of technology.

  • In addition to providing the resources for integrated and secure administrative data, IT will work with data administrators to bridge operational, strategic, and compliance gaps and work to optimize the confidentiality, integrity, availability, and privacy of University data at rest and in transit through collaboration with data owners and University leadership.

Students of Ferris State University will be the best ambassadors to promote the value and strength of Ferris State University throughout their personal and professional career.

IT will not be a barrier to business goals; however, IT cannot achieve success without support from the business.

The Information Technology department will align our efforts with the principles, goals, and strategies of the Ferris State University Plan for Information Technology and the University Strategic Plan. IT will translate strategies into action plans, resulting in the efficient and effective use of information technology resources.

IT will strive to add value to the services we provide guided by the concept “If our customers had a choice, would they choose us to deliver the requested service?”.
