Students attend a weekly computer lab where they practice a variety of reading related skills using the Reading Horizons program. This interactive software helps students improve their reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and pronunciation. It focuses on the sounds of the alphabet, including sound combinations, decoding skills, and phonetic skills.
Students work independently at their own pace in the lab and at home. The program tailors itself to the level of the student so each student can work at their appropriate level. Students are presented with a new concept in each lesson and then have the chance to practice it through games and reading passages. At the end of each section, students take a quiz to check their understanding.
