Dr. Wakeel is an Assistant Professor of Public Health at Ferris State University’s College of Health Professions. She received her PhD in Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), with a major in Community Health Sciences and a minor in Psychology. She completed both her Masters of Public Health (MPH) and her undergraduate degree in Chemistry at the University of South Florida (USF). Her postdoctoral training includes the Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Health Services Research and Healthcare Quality Improvement Program Fellowship and the Health Disparities Research Scholars (HDRS) Program Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.  Dr. Wakeel has had twelve years of academic and research training in public health, and her research interests lie primarily in racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in maternal and child health and women’s mental health.
