The Dental Hygiene and Public Health Department! DHPH advances the concept of community health and well-being with a shared vision of improving quality of life for all population types through the prevention and treatment of disease. The Department’s three programs and one minor present many opportunities for student advancement and employment in the health care and public health environment, locally, nationally and globally. The demand for dental hygienists and public health professionals provides employment opportunities upon graduation.
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Dental Hygiene gives students valuable experiential education that focuses on classroom, lab and clinical activities, altruistic community-focused endeavors, and preparation to become a valued member of the health care workforce.
The Bachelor of Science Completion Degree in Dental Hygiene offers the registered dental hygienist the opportunity to further their education in a totally online environment. Advanced education prepares the student for diverse workforce options including research, public health, clinical teaching, sales and marketing, as well as positions of leadership.
The Public Health Minor entails the completion of six Public Health courses (18 credits) to supplement the student’s undergraduate major of study spanning a wide array of health related programs and interests.
The Master of Public Health Degree prepares students for an exciting career and focuses on skills and knowledge needed to impact community and global health through examining biological and social determinants of health, emerging public health issues, epidemiology, biostatistics, research, and policy implementation to prepare the student for advanced public health roles. The demand for public health professionals will continue to rise based on growing populations and the demand for disease prevention, surveillance, and education.
