Ferris State University Bulldog Marching Band
The Ferris State University Bulldog Marching Band is a dynamic and visible ensemble that performs at home football games and represents the university with pride, energy, and professionalism. Members are part of a tradition that supports Bulldog Athletics while fostering excellence in musicianship, leadership, and community engagement. Participation also provides eligibility for an Activity-Based Scholarship (ABS), making it both a rewarding and accessible opportunity for students.
Education
Participation in the Bulldog Marching Band offers a comprehensive and enriching educational experience that extends far beyond the classroom. Students develop advanced musical skills, including tone production, rhythmic precision, and ensemble awareness, while also strengthening discipline, time management, and leadership abilities.
Marching band provides hands-on learning in a collaborative environment where students apply critical thinking, adaptability, and performance skills in real-time settings. These experiences translate directly to success in academic, professional, and personal pursuits, making marching band one of the most well-rounded co-curricular opportunities available at Ferris State University.
Students may take MUSI 240 - Marching Band for Credit and Non-Credit options.
Ambassadorship
Members of the Bulldog Marching Band serve as highly visible ambassadors for Ferris State University. Every performance reflects the pride, excellence, and integrity of the institution. Students represent not only the university, but also the College of Arts, Sciences and Education, the Music Program, and the broader Bulldog community.
Through their commitment to professionalism, school spirit, and outstanding musicianship, band members help create an exciting game-day atmosphere while upholding the values and sportsmanship standards of Bulldog Athletics, the GLIAC, and the NCAA. Their presence positively shapes how audiences, alumni, and visitors experience Ferris State University.

Band Membership
Membership in the Ferris State University Bulldog Marching Band is open to all Ferris students, regardless of major. Students from across campus come together to contribute their talents and be part of a unified, high-achieving ensemble.
Selection is made at the discretion of the Faculty Director, with an emphasis on commitment, collaboration, and a positive attitude. The ensemble values dedication and enthusiasm, making it an amazing opportunity for students seeking involvement, connection, and personal development.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals are scheduled twice weekly, providing a structured yet manageable commitment that fits within a busy academic schedule:
Wednesdays, 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Thursdays, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
This efficient rehearsal schedule allows students to fully participate in the marching band experience while balancing coursework, employment, and other campus activities.
