Anil Venkatesh is a teacher, scholar, musician and game designer. He earned a B.A. in mathematics and a B.S.E. in electrical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, and pursued graduate studies at Duke University, where he earned a Ph.D. in mathematics. Dr. Venkatesh did his doctoral work in algebra and topology, but his current research program uses applied mathematics to study topics in signal processing and music theory. He is particularly interested in research problems that are accessible to undergraduates.
As a teacher, Dr. Venkatesh is interested in all levels of math education from introductory material to advanced topics. He believes strongly in engaged learning as opposed to lecturing, and uses writing-based exercises when possible as a way for students to enhance their understanding of mathematics.
