Community Lifestyle

Ferris Community

A welcoming community makes our campus inviting. Your social life is what you make it at Ferris State. You always have a quiet place to study or fun event to enjoy. Our more than 200 student organizations let you make connections and lifelong friends, and our helpful faculty and staff genuinely look forward to serving you.

We are proud to be a diverse campus community and believe that learning from each other is one of the best parts of the college experience. Our offices of Diversity and Inclusion, Multicultural Student Services and International Education offer many opportunities for learning and intercultural exchange.

The Office of International Education provides support services for international students at Ferris, as well as many opportunities for domestic students to interact with members of other cultures. In addition to great Study Abroad trips, the office sponsors fun, engaging programming and events to help you prepare to enter the global workforce.

Emily Kearney“When I thought of college, I always thought of huge lecture halls that you’d get lost in, of not being able to find anyone to sit next to, but it wasn’t like that at all. I found that everyone was supportive and friendly. They wanted to study with me; they wanted to go the The Rock, a campus restaurant, with me. They wanted to make sure that I was all right, but they also wanted to give me my freedom. I got to choose how and where to spend my time, and because there was always something going on, I had tons of options.”

Emily Kearney of Macomb Michigan, is a 2014 Pharmacy doctoral candidate and an Honors Program graduate.

Local Area

You will love our community beyond the edge of campus. Ferris State is located in Big Rapids, Michigan, a small city with big-city amenities. At Ferris, you are close to major commercial retailers and restaurants, a historic downtown shopping district with an art center and a theater, plus great outdoor recreation.

The Muskegon River area is a popular destination for outdoor fun. Bordered by the White Pine Trail, it is a favorite spot for walking, cycling, canoeing, kayaking and tubing. With several adjacent public parks and recreational areas, you can choose your own outdoor adventure in Big Rapids.
