Why did you decide to attend college?

To support my family and show my children the importance of going to college.

How did you learn that you were a first generation college student?

I knew from the fact that my parents never went to college. My mother never finished high school.

What support system or mentors do you have in college?

Karen Greenbay, from the students with children program.

What were your personal, family or community strengths that motivated you to attend college?

I did not have family support. The church I attended supported me going to college.

What has surprised you most about your college experience so far?

How expensive it really is when you don’t have a lot of support.

What do you hope that you can do with your bachelor’s degree?

Go on to make changes in policy and within the government to help those like me. Those who need more help to get to a good point in like.

What advice do you have to a new first generation college student considering or pursuing a degree at Ferris?

I would tell them to go for it and it’s never too late to start. Ferris has a good support system.
