Why did you decide to attend college?

I wanted to do something more in my life and give myself more career options to choose from. 

How did you learn that you were a first generation college student?

I didn’t think I was until I learned that to be a first gen. student your parents can’t have a bachelors. My mother has her associate’s degree but I am still considered first gen.

What support system or mentors do you have in college?

Everyone in R&SS, Liz, the writing and tutoring center. I have learned that a lot of people are here to help me including my friends and family. 

What were your personal, family or community strengths that motivated you to attend college?

  • My determination
  • I am very goal oriented

What has surprised you most about your college experience so far?

More people are here to help me succeed than I ever thought there would be. 

What do you hope that you can do with your bachelor’s degree?

To give myself more career options in the dental hygiene field. 

What advice do you have to a new first generation college student considering or pursuing a degree at Ferris?

  • Never give up
  • When you need help just ask. There are so many people on campus that want you to succeed.
