Why did you decide to attend college?

I came to college to further my education, and to provide a better future for myself.

How did you learn that you were a first generation college student?

When I was informed that it means your parents have not obtained a bachelors degree.

What support system or mentors do you have in college?

My uncle, grandma, mom and dad, close friends, family, and some professors.

What were your personal, family or community strengths that motivated you to attend college?

My mom, grandma, and uncle pushed me to take the next step.

What has surprised you most about your college experience so far?

That even though I’ve felt that from my background I shouldn’t be here, that I am and I am strong and smart.

What do you hope that you can do with your bachelor’s degree?

I hope I can make a better life for myself.

What advice do you have to a new first generation college student considering or pursuing a degree at Ferris?

Push yourself even if everyone else doubts you. You are here for a reason.
