This group is for those interested in cars and/or racing and want to get involved in the fun of building and racing a car and see engineering in action. All students are welcomed and encouraged to participate!

The Ferris Formula SAE team endeavors to compete in the annual Formula SAE Michigan engineering design competition, hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers. This competition challenges collegiate teams to design, construct and market an open-wheeled formula-style racing vehicle for off-highway recreational use, and is contested by over 120 institutions from around the world. Ferris State University students have competed since 2006, and continue to apply, diversify, and validate knowledge gained in the classroom through membership in Ferris Formula SAE.

The purpose of Formula Electric is to collaborate and use teamwork to design, engineer, and compete in a myriad of competitions based on the team's efforts through Formula SAE International. The organization represents the university on a national level through the competitions attended each year. Additionally, the team plays an active local role in the community through service.

We have working meetings every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. Locations vary, frequently in Swan 221 or 218, but also in AUT 112 and the Swan Machine Tool lab. Best way to know is to be on the group's email list.

Ferris Formula SAE membership is an open-ended opportunity to gain meaningful experience in product development, vehicle design, marketing, and project management, among other areas. The challenges faced in Formula SAE development projects closely resemble those encountered in modern industry, which make Formula SAE competitors experienced and knowledgeable candidates in today's job market. Alumni of the Ferris Formula SAE team currently hold positions in vehicle development, powersports development, engine development, CAD drafting, machining, automation, welding engineering, service engineering, and other areas of industry.
