Italian Version of "Mammy"

***The staff of the Jim Crow Museum receives dozens of letters and emails. Some of these communiques offer insight into race relations -- historically and in the present. While some are hateful, we have decided to share some of these letters and emails with our Internet visitors.***

Mammy stereotype

Dear David Pilgrim,

I'm an Italian teacher and researcher on historical and contemporary expressions of racist and sexist stereotypes. Thank you for your site, it is very useful. In Italy there is nothing like it.

I am sending you the link of an article that I wrote on the Italian version of "mammy": the commercial mammy of Venchi, famous Italian chocolate company.

I hope it can be useful to you, for an international "battle" against racist and sexist stereotypes.

Thanks for everything and thanks for all the work you do with The Jim Crow Museum.

Best regards,

Marginalia
