Message to Students from Joy Pulsifer, Dean of Student Life
Good afternoon Bulldogs,
Last week we received welcome news from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services that we are now in a post-surge recovery phase due to decreases in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations across the state.
Revised Face Covering Guidance
With this news, face coverings are now optional for indoor spaces on campus with the exception of instructional spaces such as classrooms and laboratories, and patient care areas. Students at state-wide locations should follow the face covering policies at the host location. The University will continue to support all campus community members and visitors who choose to wear a face covering while indoors.
New CDC Symptom Checker
Faculty, staff, students and visitors will also no longer need to complete the University’s daily symptom checker before coming to our campuses. If you are feeling ill, you are encouraged to use the new COVID-19 symptom checker on the CDC website. This site also provides clear details and information on what to do if you have or have been exposed to COVID-19.
As we have done over the past two years, we will continue to monitor local and statewide conditions, in addition to guidance from local, state and federal health authorities relative to COVID-19. If necessary, these new guidelines on mask usage and the symptom checker may be re-evaluated should conditions in our communities change.
At-home COVID-19 Tests Available on Campus
The University has procured at-home COVID-19 tests. If you need a test, you can contact Birkam Health Center (call x2614, option 2, or stop by during normal business hours) or if at Kendall College of Art and Design email Mary Bradshaw.
If you complete an at-home test, and you are positive for COVID-19, please report your positive status via the “Report a Positive Test Result” portal. This is so you can be provided with the assistance you may need and ensure you receive the proper guidance.
COVID-19 Testing on Campus
On the Big Rapids campus, COVID-19 testing remains available for faculty, staff and students at the Pharmacy Care Clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 4:45 p.m., and Wednesdays from 12 to 1:45 p.m. This testing is for those who are asymptomatic (no symptoms present). Please only use this testing location if you are NOT experiencing symptoms. You can “Schedule an Asymptomatic COVID-19 Test" right from the Coronavirus Updates Hub webpage. Or, asymptomatic testing for faculty and staff is also available Monday through Friday by appointment at Birkam Health Center. Please call (231) 591-2614, Option 2, if you would like to schedule an appointment.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has a Test Finder on their website to help you locate places throughout Michigan where you can get a free COVID-19 test. In addition, many pharmacies like Walgreens, Rite Aid and Meijer also have free testing available and at-home tests for purchase.
Thank you for staying connected with us. When there are updates to share, we will continue to provide information via email and on the Coronavirus Updates Hub.
