December 13, 2021
The Re-entry Committee would like to thank you for your diligence in following the COVID-19 health and safety protocols established to keep our Ferris community safe this semester. Everything we have in place now (e.g. the daily symptom checker and reporting COVID-19 symptoms, wearing a face covering indoors over the mouth and nose while on campus, reporting a positive test result, etc.) will continue into the spring semester.
As of this morning, one new case was reported on Friday, Dec. 10, for a total of 27 active cases within the Ferris State University community, and two active cases at Kendall College of Art and Design. You can review the COVID-19 Dashboard online.
If you do test positive for COVID-19, please make sure you share your positive test result, as this will alert Human Resources and Birkam Health Center to reach out to you to begin contact tracing and provide you with the support you need.
COVID-19 Testing During the Holidays
District Health Department #10 plans to continue its “Park and Test” COVID-19 clinics throughout the rest of the month. The testing is free and available for those who are symptomatic and asymptomatic (without symptoms). You can pre-register for a test online. In Big Rapids, testing is available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Special holiday testing hours will be posted online soon. If this location is not convenient, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has a Test Finder on their website to help you locate places throughout Michigan where you can get a free COVID-19 test. In addition, many pharmacies like Walgreens, Rite Aid and Meijer also have free testing available.
Holiday Domestic/International Travel Reminder
With the emergence of the new Omicron variant of the virus that causes COVID-19, it is advisable to check the CDC’s travel website for updates and other important destination information before you travel domestically or internationally during the holiday. This site is updated frequently as new information becomes available.
As a reminder, University-sponsored international travel is suspended at this time.
Thank you for continuing to use the tools and resources available to help keep our University community safe and healthy. This includes:
- Completing the daily symptom checker before coming to a campus location
- Reporting COVID-19 signs/symptoms in the symptom checker
- Staying home when you are feeling ill
- Reporting a positive test result for COVID-19
- Wearing a face covering indoors over the mouth and nose, regardless of vaccination status
- Engaging in good hygiene practices including frequent and thorough hand washing
We will continue to provide information via email and on the Coronavirus Updates Hub. As always, you can reach the Committee at [email protected].
