Message to Students

November 19, 2021

Message to Students from Joy Pulsifer, Dean of Student Life

Good Afternoon Bulldogs,

As we look forward to the upcoming Thanksgiving Break, I have a few timely reminders to share with you.

Registration for Spring 2022

If you have not done so already, please make an appointment with your advisor to discuss your plans for spring and for registering for classes. You can locate their phone number and email address in “Registration Status/Advisor Information” in your MyFSU. Additional information for registering is located here. If you have a registration hold on your account due to a past due balance and need help resolving this, please contact me at [email protected]

Deadline to Request a Grade of Credit or No Credit (CR/NC) for Last Spring (Spring 2021) is Dec. 17

Students have the option to submit a request to have a course letter grade from last spring (Spring 2021) changed to Credit/No Credit (CR/NC). The deadline is 5 p.m., Dec. 17, 2021.

  • Requests must be submitted to your course instructor. If approved, the normal grade change process will apply.
  • Instructor approval of a grade change may be dependent upon accreditation, prerequisite, and/or program standards. A CR/NC grade will not affect GPA.
  • Please be aware that a CR/NC grade may not be in your best interest, as graduate school admissions and academic content major admissions often require specific and comprehensive grades and GPAs.
  • Consult your academic advisor to determine if the change is allowed by external accreditation and academic program completion plans.
  • Consult a financial aid advisor before submitting you request.

Flu Shots Available at Birkam

To help the University community stay healthy, the Birkam Health Center is offering flu shots to faculty, staff and students. Please contact the Health Center by phone at (231) 591-2614 to make an appointment.

Stay Healthy for Thanksgiving

The COVID-19 infection rate is on the rise across the nation. Please continue to practice social/physical distancing, wear a face covering, and wash your hands often to keep you and others safe and healthy. If you are feeling ill and/or been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and not vaccinated, please stay home.

As the holiday approaches, please be mindful of your potential exposure to COVID-19 and consider participating with our asymptomatic testing before you leave next week and when you return from break. Sign up here. Symptomatic and asymptomatic testing can also be scheduled by contacting Birkam at (231) 591-2614.

Contracts for On-Campus Housing for Fall 2022/Spring 2023 are Now Available

Please read the contract before signing and understand that once signed, you have entered into a financial commitment to live on campus for the next academic year. If you have any questions, please consult the Housing Website or contact Housing at [email protected]

The Center for Student Involvement Seeks Your Feedback

Please assist the Center for Student Involvement by completing this brief survey. The results will help us make plans for a vibrant campus experience this spring. Contact the Center for Student Involvement at [email protected] or (231) 591-2606 if you have questions about the survey.

COVID-19 Relief Funds

Additional federal relief funds for emergency assistance grants will be available for Spring 2022. Following federal guidelines, the University has prioritized the awarding of these grants based on financial need. However, any student enrolled at least half time (6 credits or more) for Spring 2022 in a degree program and who is not a high school student concurrently or dual enrolled, IS ELIGIBLE. Watch your email on Nov. 23 for more information and a link to apply for a $1,000 grant.

I hope you are staying healthy and wish you a Thanksgiving break that provides joy, rest and recuperation. Thank you for choosing Ferris State for your education, and go Bulldogs!

All my best,

Joy N. Pulsifer
Dean of Student Life
