Center for Student Involvement ‘Spring Back’ Activities Offer Opportunities to Gather for Entertainment in January

Anniversary event

Arcade games are just part of the entertainment planned on Saturday evening, Jan. 14, when the Center for Student Involvement hosts an anniversary party for the David L. Eisler Center from 8 to 11 p.m. CSI’s “Spring Back” schedule of events began on Tuesday, Jan. 10 and continues through Tuesday, Jan. 31.

No matter the January weather, Ferris State University’s Center for Student Involvement is ready to entertain students with its “Spring Back” schedule of events to begin the Spring 2023 semester.

CSI Coordinator and Entertainment Unlimited Advisor Ben Avery said activities begin during the first week of classes.

“Entertainment Unlimited has consulted with Ferris’ Esports Club on a ‘Day of Play,’ set for 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, in the ballrooms of the David L. Eisler Center,” Avery said. “Beyond the opportunity to participate in Super Smash Brothers and Rocket League tournaments, there will be a wide variety of board games set up, where students can visit on their schedule and possibly make new friends while enjoying the gameplay. This day-long activity is free and available to all students.”

On Saturday, Jan. 14, from 8 to 11 p.m., Avery noted the anniversary celebration for the Eisler Center takes place.

“Some highlights include a live band ready to perform all kinds of music for those ready to show off their karaoke skills,” Avery said. “We are also excited to welcome ‘speed painter’ Evan Struck, who will feature his skills in creating pop culture figures and canvasses with music, movies and sports stars. There will be lots of food, a balloon artist, tarot readings, bingo and arcade games for those who attend.”

On Tuesday, Jan. 17, visitors will have an opportunity to produce a personalized street sign on the upper lobby of the Eisler Center from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

“There is real interest every time CSI offers this event to our students, and we have a limited quantity of materials,” Avery said. “We will have stations near the ballrooms and the Founders’ Room, along with all the materials to make a sign.”

Prizes will be available in a trivia contest, set for 6 p.m. at the large stage of the Rankin Atrium on Wednesday, Jan. 18, sponsored by Entertainment Unlimited. Avery noted a Kahoot-based event featuring Cartoon Network shows. On Thursday, Jan. 19, students should rally at the Eisler Center Ballrooms for an RSO Fair.

“Over 60 registered student organizations will be on hand from 4 to 7 p.m., welcoming those who hope to learn about groups that meet their interests,” Avery said.

Late January activities include Grocery Bingo on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. in the Eisler Center Ballroom, followed by a “2000s Trivia Night” the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 25, with Matt Eickhoff of “Here’s Your Host” on the Rankin Atrium stage. The top participants will receive prizes starting at 6 p.m.

Avery said Entertainment Unlimited caps the schedule with its “January Jams” series.

“Javier Colon, the first winner of ‘The Voice,’ will perform, starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, on the Rankin Atrium stage,” Avery said. “On Monday, Jan. 30, an open mic night will be held there from 5 to 7 p.m., and the Spring Back schedule wraps up with another musical act, still in negotiations which will perform in the Rankin Lounge at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31. We hope students make time for these events, so they can enjoy themselves time outside their class schedules and possibly make new friends on campus.”
