Associate Degree Program in HVACR Lauded as Strong Demand, High-Paying Career Option

HVACR ranking

A prominent Ferris State University College of Engineering Technology program is once again drawing high praise from an outside observer.

HVAC Classes has highlighted Ferris State University’s Associate of Applied Science degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology on a blog post listing its top choices for this learning in 2022-23.

The HVAC Classes report, produced by Sechel Ventures, LLC, a digital publishing company focused on well-paying, high-opportunity careers, features Ferris’ HVACR Technology curriculum for those looking to become a service or laboratory technician, system designer or industry sales representative.

Ferris Associate Professor Gerry Lucas said high school students and regional technical education center students are the focus of College of Engineering Technology marketing.

“The top names in the industry come to Ferris when they are searching for critical staff,” Lucas said. “Our marketing drives that point home, so students understand we offer a superior educational product and opportunity.”

The blog cites a 2022 Bureau of Labor Statistics report that pegs a five percent increase in demand for HVAC mechanics and installers over the next eight years, with average annual salaries near $55,000 for industry professionals who have earned Associate degrees.

“Our curriculum provides the base knowledge in tooling, physics, thermodynamics and electrical circuitry to help meet the call for front-line diagnosticians,” Lucas said. “There is a critical need for professionals who can install and repair this technology.”

Ferris also offers a bachelor’s degree in HVACR Engineering Technology and Energy Management, a continuation of the HVACR Technology curriculum. Additionally, the College of Engineering Technology has scholarship opportunities for qualified and interested students in this field of study.
